Care at home

“It is vitally important to take care of your teeth and gums in between visits to the dentist and hygienist. It is also important to look after the treatment you receive”

Here are some tips for your care at home.

Tips for a healthier mouth

Do a D.I.Y gum check
First brush your teeth thoroughly, looking in the mirror, making sure the bristles get right under the gum edges. (If you don’t touch the gum you may be fooled into thinking that all is well) Now, check your toothbrush – is there any blood?

Next, looking in the mirror, put your fingertip on the edge of each tooth, one by one and try to move the tooth back and forth. So any teeth move visibly? Can you chew hard food without difficulty?

Finally, have you ever noticed a bad taste or smell from your mouth when you wake up? Ask your partner!

If you can say YES to any of these questions it’s time to ask your dentist for help and advice because you may have the early signs of gum disease. The good news is that’s gum troubles can usually be treated by your dentist and hygienist.

And the best news is that gum disease can be prevented by careful attention to plaque control as soon as teeth appear, so parents also need to teach your children how to brush properly and the importance of regular dental checks. Then everyone can look forward to a fresh, secure and attractive smile – for life
